Tamron 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC lens review (DSLR lens) with samples

Don’t confuse this new Tamron 18-200mm ‘II’ lens with their other 18-200mm ‘III’ lens, for mirrorless cameras! This ‘II’ lens is a brand new version for DSLR cameras, with an APS-C sensor (like the Canon 100D, 1200D, 750D, 760D, 70D, 7D etc.).

It comes in at an astonishingly low price of only £179 – can it possibly be any good?

In case anyone is wondering, my Canon 70D had to be sold as I was saving up for my wedding/ honeymoon. 🙂

All pictures and footage shot by me on a Canon 100D camera.

Mamont80 Mamont80 says:

Hello. Say not take this lens to replace the kit from 18-55 nikon or canon? For me the main thing that he was as sharp as a whale and it is on 18mm in the closed diaphragm.

Hey! Which lens would you recommend between this and the Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS STM for canon eos 550d?

Paul Overington says:

Tamron 18-200mm VC Canon Fit Lens. Is this the one sold at Argos. 462-9559

Debora Fiuza says:

Very helpful and informative review. Even a complete beginner, like myself, can understand.

Mouedh Sassi says:

who’s better this one or stm 18-135?

teseract says:

Newegg had this on sale with a Nikon mount for $99 (now sold out, sorry) so I snagged it. I hope it’s better or at least as good as my kit lens, so I can leave it in the closet and my 55-200mm at home unless I know I’m shooting only at 200mm, then use my 35mm prime lens when I want the best image quality close up. I’m by no means a pro photographer obviously.
That said I’d probably not have bought it if it was $250, but for $99 with free shipping it was hard to pass up.

Ricky Dos Santos says:

I love your reviews. Very helpful. I have a question though. I am buying a Canon Rebel EOS T5i soon and want to get a better lens than the provided kit lens. I would like to get some great portrait shots with the lens I end up getting. One of my older lenses (not so great) is an 18-70mm. I’m pretty happy with that range and am most familiar with it. What would be your recommendation? (just an FYI, I also have a Tamron 70-300mm 1:4-5.6 TELE-MACRO lens, so I can use that for any longer shots).

Jeremy Isaacs says:

This lense came with my camera.I also have the sigma 17-50mm lense should I buy the 18-135mm Canon lense which would have the possibility of image correction by the camera? I am not happy with this lense (18-200mm tamron).

Pilo Pilomen says:

Hi Chris, which is better, this tamron or the canon 55-250mm???

David Ashworth says:

Hello Chris I have a Canon 18-135 mm lens I use on my 60D I am looking for a lens with an equivalent focal range (28-216mm) for use on a 5D is there anything you could recommend?

Boris Dementyev says:

very helpful! thank you for your work

Can i use it with nikon D3100 ?

andriessen says:

Im planning on picking up the Sony A7s II tomorrow and i am still looking for an lens. I dont want to blow another 1000 for a lens. Will this lens be a good choice?

Laj Siab Production says:

Does it sound when focusing? Is it A good Len for video shooting?

Zorco says:

Is this a good lens for sport photography (athletics)?

Lukas O says:

I have the D5300 and looking for that 18-200 range… I keep hearing the picture quality is not that good… I’m not sure what the best option is under $400 for around this range. I was looking at Tamron AF 18-270mm f/3.5-6.3 VC PZD but I’m assuming the picture quality would be the same and worse beyond 200mm. is Nikon Nikkor 18-200mm F/3.5-5.6 G Aspherical ED IF DX AF-S VR the better choice for overall better PQ/sharpness? argghh!!!
