Hi..I’m own the 24mm and I’m pure happy with this lens. Great for street and corner to corner sharp.

modernwize says:

Which prime lenses for extreme low light? I was at a wedding this weekend and had to shoot the bride and groom running under the sparklers….I was at 12,500 ISO at f2.8 and still didn’t have enough light! For that situation which lens could have captured them running without having to boost the ISO so high? Sad to say, the images sucked.

Ash Kan says:

+WhichLens I don’t understand your comment. How can you turn a Samyung lens into a Nikon 14 mm 🙂

Biomech011 says:

Yo AP! what’s your thoughts on the Nikkor 15mm f3.5 AIS? I’ve been on the Fence on that lens & the 20mm f2.8.

Jeff Chen says:

20mm f3.5 AIS or 20mm f2.8 AIS/ AF-D regardless of price because on ebay they are about the same price now ???? Which is the best 20mm prime after the 20mm f1.8 . Also looking to use it as an astro lens but also normal wide landscape lens

Rjel Styx says:

i have just bought 35mm f/2 for $120.. I’m waiting for it’s arrival XD should i get tamron 15-30 or nikkor 20mm 1.8G next?

Steve S. says:

So the 24mm f/2.8D is good, but not fantastic? Is it a respectably good lens? What am I losing in IQ if I go inexpensive and get the 24 instead of going for the 20mm f/1.8G? I’m thinking of using it for a street lens on a D500 and a part of a lightweight travel kit on a D5500, D500 or D800 body, depending on the trip.

I realize that shall have to endeavor to persevere should I be forced to manually focus on the D5500 and their weights are pretty close.

Jose Reznov De La Juancho says:

Hello I want to purchase the 24mm but not sure the exact version. Please confirm thanks

joseph vaysman says:

You played Chess???

burg856 says:

How about the Voigtlander 20 f3.5???

David Griffis says:

At $400 refurbished the 20mm is a hair overpriced. I like the 24mm AI which comes in at half the price.

Sajith Kumar says:

24 mm f2.8D , 28mm f2.8D , 35mm f2D which is best ?

Masum Khan says:

hi ken. since I’m using a d5200, is it OK to to the wide end of my 18-55 3.5-5.6 for wide shots? 0r should I get a dedicated wide prime? AFAIK them kit lenses are quite good.. throw in your suggestions please.

Scott Wyllie says:

Wondering what your thoughts are on an old school 18mm f3.5 ai. Was thinking of trading in my 17-35 for your recommended 20-35 and would like the flexibility to head down to those just above fisheye focal lengths. Hard to find those bastards but I may eventually pull the trigger on one.

Blue Calm Productions says:

28mm looks wonder for film style wides. I have a Nikon 28-70mm f2.8, and i’m surprised at how well distortion is controlled on the wide end. It’s prime like imo. I alsoI have the Tokina 11-16mm but find myself using the 15-16mm as primes on a full frame camera (A7S II) So I have a 16mm wide and a 28mm wide-ish…need something inbetween! Dunno whether to go with a 20mm or 24mm.

philippe reichert says:

How is the 20mm 2.8 D compared to the 3.5?

Eli Hefetz says:

what do you think about the Tamron 35 1.8 ?

Gabriel GS says:

Ken, What do you think of nikkor AI-s 18mm f/3.5?

icwsi says:

What about Carl Zeiss Jena – Flektogon 2,8/35? Just heard about it but never seen any examples

Andrea D'Oria says:

Hey quick one for you. I was looking into the 20mm prime lenses series and was considering one of these 3lenses :
1. Nikkor 20mm f/2.8 AI-S
2. Nikkor 20mm f/2.8D
3. Nikkor 20mm f/3.5 AI-S
I know that you love and recommend the 3.5, but I don’t know if the 2.8 would be a better choice for night street photography? I’m looking into a super compact lens, so I had to cross out my initial choice, the f/1.8 🙁

As usual always nice video man! Cheers.

sacca email says:

Ken, I wanna hear ur say about sigma 20mm f1.8. BIG THANKS in adv.

JR Holt says:

Have you ever seen a Nikon 13mm f/5.6 ai-s??? Have you ever owned one or taken photos with one? I know this lens is considered the holy grail of Nikon lenses what are your thoughts, opinions on this lens. I know for myself I can not afford something this unique but I love your videos no bullshit go fuck yourself attitude her it is.

Pavitra Kumar Kunder says:

Personally prefer 28mm for street photography. and I am also a chess player! 50mm kind of gets boring after sometime. 35mm is better a bit wide but, still doesn’t feel that wide enough. 28mm feels perfect, like the widness without typical wideangle distortion. 28mm will force you to get in the middle of the action which many photographers don’t mind, I like to be in the middle of the action. But, 28mm is not good for full length portraits. Why not a 45mm? Sigma makes a sweet 30mm 1.4 for sony e mount which roughly translates to 45mm in full frame terms.

Jupiter Eye says:

Ken, what is your opinion on Zuiko (vintage) wide angle lenses?

Joshua Photara says:

I recently bought the 35mm f2 and the colour is magnificent.. a person said to my ‘that photo looks real’ 🙂

Randy T says:

Are fixed length wide angle lens better than a wide angle zoom lens?

Mike Thomas says:

I agree with you AP on all that you say. I bought my stuff before I tuned in. The Sony A7ii and the big 1.4 35mm. I love the images. Not sure if it’s worth the extra cost compared to all this beautiful Nikon legacy stuff. I did pick up a Nikon Macro and it looks great. I put a spacer and can increase 55 to 70…I’m impressed with the Nikon glass. The most bang for buck I’ve seen. And with a mirrorless setup it seems damn sharp.

just Random says:

I agree on your selection, but personally I would replace the 24mm Nikon with a 25mm Zeiss f2.8. I just like the pictures from that lens much more than the pictures from the 24mm (or the 20mm Nikon).

And you can pick them up quiet cheap and as good as new for about 500$…

Myles Pember says:

Have you ever tried the Tokina 11-16 f/2.8?

Tom Burchill says:

Hey Ken, 2 questions: Are there any nikon 18mm primes worth owning? I want to do some night sky photography without breaking the bank…or should I stick to the 20mm? 2nd question: I want to start experimenting with T/S lenses on a budget. Which older ones are worth owning? Thanks for you advice.

Lewis Marroquin says:

Hi Ken, I came across a Nikon 14mm 2.8 D prime on eBay and started to search for reviews. I believe it was release in 1999. Would this Nikon lens be a candidate for astro photography or for photographing in forest landscapes on FX? Thanks : )

SteelBustingBiker says:

With your thousands of viewers…EBAY has pretty much dried up on any deals. Some have doubled in price for the once ignored lens..now the greed factor has taken over.

CJ Markrush says:

Ken, do you have or tried the Nikkor Auto N 24mm f/2.8 Non Ai lens? I got one in really good condition at a Salvation Army for $12.99, won’t fit my D200 and needs to be converted to AI, is it worth to invest in?

Maurizio Mauricone says:

What is your opinion of the Nikon 28mm 1.4D?

rainy78 says:

You dont recommend the 20mm nikkor lenses for DX cameras eh Ken?

yanntwelve says:

forgot Wide Distagon 15 mm
