At first glance, primes might seem less capable than zooms, which can cover a range of focal lengths with the flick of a wrist. But since manufacturers only have to optimize a fixed lens for one length, that allows them to create sharper images than any other lens type. We’ve ranked the best models for Nikon cameras here by their sharpness, low light performance, and durability.

I have a 35 mm and it’s my favorite lens. I also own the 200 to 500 mm. And I’d like to get the 70 to 200 F2.8 one day. Good video

I have Nikon d7100 , happy with Nikon 50mm f1.8g and dx 35mm f1.8g

biggreenmachine2007 says:

Forgot to mention the 105mm f1.4e.
I find it to be a better performer than the 85mm f1.4 and I love the 85.

Claudiu Ionita says:

I highly agree with #1, 35mm f/1.8g is my favorite lens, I consider it my default lens because is so sharp and so fast that I can’t even compare it with my other lenses. On this list I would also add sigma 10-20mm f/3.5 EX DC HSM because it’s image and build quality and more prime lens instead of zoom lens, you simply can’t compare the quality of a prime lens with a zoom lens.

I have the 35mm 1.8,and my favourite 28-300mm vr f 3.5-5.6 G

Amritendu Das says:

Where is Nikon AF-S ED Nikkor 14-24mm F/2.8 G ? It should be No.1 Nikon lens.

sid vicious says:

I have all of the lenses on your list except the new 70-200 el fl f2.8. I have tested it and it is incredibly fast and sharp. Maybe one day, but I can’t justify the cost, I do have the 70-200 VR 1 and the Tamron 70-200 with VC, so I will be content with them for now.

Mohan Nair says:

Excellent lens

pauldhoff says:

Funny, but I have 3 of the 5 Nikon lenses, 200-500mm (that I love), 105mm, 50mm 1.8 used with my D7200 and a D5500 for an second lens backup. The lens that I would change is the 35mm 1.8 DX to a 40mm 2.8 DX. The main reason is that the 40mm is also a Micro which I love being able to get right up to the subject if needed and it has a better bokeh rating than the 35mm.

Claude BLIN says:

I prefer the Fftn visible With 70_200
