Tamron SP 90mm f/2.8 VC USD Macro F017 lens review with samples (Full-frame & APS-C)

Here is the latest version of Tamron’s popular, full-frame, image-stabilized macro lens. Let’s see where any improvements do and do not lie.

All pictures taken by me on Canon 6D, and Sony a7R II and Canon EOS M3 cameras.

Можно уже эту бабу страшную не фотографировать? Блевать же тянет.

Peepers 47 says:

When looking for a lens review, this is alway my go to channel. Not a criticism just saying I missed the 1 to 1 image examples on your 6D. Would I see a difference…

PLVLOG says:

Your reviews are some of the best on Youtube!

Ankit Patel says:

I use this lens to photograph my artwork. It’s so incredibly sharp even on my T7i.

Bruno Fernandes says:

Always nice videos.

breathLP says:

I bought this instead of the Canon 100mm L. I am loving it.

cole ache says:

F/4 on the a7R ii was surprisingly good.

SomeGuyInSandy says:

Wow! I think I need one of these. Nice review, well done as always!

Scott Mathieson says:

Im getting a new lens… I’m just not sure whether to get this one or the tamron 85mm. Price isn’t an issue so it comes down to the everyday use. It’s for portraits aswell as general everyday photography. Which is the sharper of the two? How would the 85mm compare at f2.8? Both lenses seem superb value

Gwadar TV says:

Hey, there, could you please make a separate video on sharp lenses for Canon APSC bodies. I dispretly need a guidance as I can’t afford spending a lot more money on here & there lenses. I have bought a Canon 200D with 18-55mm f/4-5.6 for recording my usual free times and my travels to the world as I wish to do it sometimes in near future. If God Wells. So, i thought you would better help me, being a Canon user and not supporting them anyway, your reviews are really inspiring me and other too.

You may also suggest me something on the comments too. Or if you do any Q&A there. I am stuck, bcz I want to buy a 24mm STM, a 55-250mm STM, a 50mm 1.8 STM, a 28-80mm USM, a Helios 44-2, a SMC Pentax 50mm 1.7, a 35mm or what?

Please help me, there are a lot of this or that, in this world and I am lost. I want to get everything and I don’t want to spend a lot of money on that, surprising, isn’t it?

Daniel Setiawan says:

Would you recommend this lens over the old Canon 100mm macro?

Arjit Malviya says:

hey chirs thanks for reviewing this lens…
will you suggest this lens for some portrait work too?

Diego Rivera says:

Second 🙁

Stan S says:

A suggestion, if I may. Since different lenses have different maximum apertures, could you make different bokeh tests between f1.4 through f2.8 [f4.0]?
This lens might have a more attractive bokeh than others, but because of it’s limitations, the bokeh doesn’t look as good as an f1.8 lens at 1.8 but looks better at f2.8 than the f1.8 lens.

Goncalo Perpetuo says:

Regarding bokeh/portraits it seemed to me that the sigma 105 f2.8 is more pleasing… (probably regarding other features is worse… don’t know… only thing I know is that I love it’s all around performance in image quality and HATE it’s focusing on the canon M3… on older cameras it is ok…ish)

Jason Fry says:

I may be the only view to know that was 1st John at the end there 😉

Gusti Ngurah Sugiantara says:

Can I do portrait with this lens?

Johnny Sistonen says:

would really whant to see a tokina 100mm macro review its even cheaper and i Think it smokes tamron 90mm in microcontrast and bokeh

Thunder Studios says:

Thank you

Andres Taieb says:

Nice review as always! I am looking for a good budget low light performer (pretty impossible it seems) telephoto lens as I think thats what is missing for me right now. any advice on that as a 70-200 is waaay too expensive for me right now.
