Sony 50mm F2.8 Macro FE Lens Review | John Sison

Please support my channel by purchasing the Sony 50mm F2.8 Macro through this link –

In this video I take a look at Sony’s 50mm F2.8 FE Macro lens. Made for the Sony E-mount system, its compatible with both Full frame (like the A7RM2 and A7SM2) and APSC crop sensor cameras (like the a6500 and a6300). Its specifically targeted towards people who shoot anything from plants and insects to food and product photography and can also be used as a standard walk around prime lens.

ACIERO says:

I have this lens its great for photos however, filming is not working out for me. Do you have any tips and tips for that of recommend something with macro capabilities for video….

Jojo Sunny says:

will this lense be gud for portrait Photography? if nt, which 1 would u recommend in this budget for my sony a7?

Michael says:

If you have already a sel-90m28g – would you still consider buying a 50mm Version? Where / in which situation would be a 50mm macro be better then the 90mm macro? … really clueless and new to photography.

3 Dengz says:

Can you give you the model plz? Thank you

cheng su says:

I bought this lens for food photography , I really like the performance , focus speed and sharpness and thanks for sharing the review

Kevin Anderson says:

cool video john

Boomerino says:

600 USD in my country! Bah. I really want a replacement for my Samyang 100mm macro.

obayed haque says:

Seems like a good cheap lens – great option for low budget photography 🙂

Neopulse00 says:

Need to see this pitted up against the 1.8 for wide open quality, bokeh, f/5.6, f/8 and f/11 optical quality.

MyLifeFrAiur Yang says:

that light is awesome!

Pooh Lucky says:

is the sound of focus annoying?

Carlos Rosa says:

How’s the bokeh? I’m interested for wedding, taking pictures of ring, but then I’ll need a really shallow depth field, would be good for that?

Rahul Govani says:

I know its very late but can you do a review of the kit lens sony FE 3.5-5.6/24-70

David Niedbala says:

Hahahaha love the end.

Jose Matutina says:

The lens is not stabilized but the Sony A7rii has IBIS.

Franklin Michael says:

Loved the video, but i have a question about the term macro, if you have 2 50mm lenses one of them macro, and you take a picture of a coin at 16mm will the coin take up a larger part of the picture in a macro than in the normal lens?

Robert Sherrow says:

Another great video John, well done! Also loved the outtakes!

Maxime Demosthenes says:

hahahaha perfect review and bloopers xD

Charmaine Dulak says:

Hello! I’m wondering… can this one get the same bokeh effect in photos like the FE 50mm F1.8? And which one, out of the two would you recommend for videos? Thank you!

John Adams says:

50mm f/2.8 is very sharp the AF focusing is painfully SLOW. Don’t even think of using it for video application.

Jason Cole says:

Will it work fine with the a7 since there is no ibis?

A Canuck says:

Thank you for this. Practical, honest and helpful.

Juan Alvarado says:

I want to know the difference in mm when it comes to macro. does more mm mean more zoom like as in making the object bigger or the farther you can be from the object and still get a close up?

Bangbangboom51 says:

Nice Video. I’m considering this lens now as a do it all lens minus for video as the AF is noisy. How fast would the AF perform on an A6500 for portrait and street photography using this lens and locking out the macro mode(.3m-.16m)?

Saxin Photography says:

Interesting review. Would be fun to see how it compares with 50mm legacy lenses which can be picked up relatively cheaply compared to this, and I assume would adapt easily on Sony cameras? For example the Zuiko AUTO MACRO 50mm f/3.5 which is very sharp.

Reuven Matalon says:

Great review John! How does it compare with the FE 90mm Macro Lens ?

Shane Doyle says:

Your breakfast looks much more appetising than mine
