This is a review of the Laowa 25mm f/2.8 2.5-5x ultra macro lens. I will talk about the design, build quality, image quality of this lens and I’ll also show you some of the ultra macro photos I shot on this lens. I’ll let you guess what are the objects I’m shooting and I’ll reveal the answer at the end of the video as well as telling you what I like and don’t like about this lens.

Thanks for sharing, I’m pretty sure I’ll be getting one of these, quality looks really good and will be interested to compare it to my 200mm Medical Nikkor

bulletsie says:

I love you Venus Optics! you are awesome! I was delighted when you released the 60mm 2:1 and dreamed of a company releasing a lens that could have a 5:1 aspect ratio similar to the Canon MPE65. The next step is to install daisy chips on your lens mounts so EXIF data can be passed to camera! not important but would be a nice feature.

Nitin Lawrence says:

Another good review. Laowa just might be my new favorite lens makers. I guessed like three or four of the camera related equipment you shot. I enjoyed the reveal towards the end after the tease though the video. Thank you for doing a nice job, Richard. Hope to see more. Looks like a lovely lense for the macro freaks.

angelisone says:

Well done, Richard.

The old days, we use bellow & inverted the lens.
Today, we use ATG Gold Adapter onto Carl Zeiss and Hitachi SEM to get Nano to Pico.

Bernardo Segura says:

thank you for the review!, I just wish you have included some nature photography, in wish I think the lens will shine and will be mostly used for. I actually believe the usability of the lens its way more important than the look, so I’m loving this lens.
Do you know when it’s going to be available and were?

Leica Dad says:

I’ve never owned a macro lens, but after your review I definitely can see some good use of this. Very cool ant man perspective shots, great video. I only guess a few right…

Chaitanya Shukla says:

Thanks for review, dont agree with your cons. None of Super macro(mag ratio higher than 2x) focus to infinity its just a given compromise in design. Also no one based lens based on how good it looks rather its just optical performance that decides the purchasing decision.

Joshua Boldt says:

great review. Thanks

s bradley smith says:

Great review, however a lens not being “attractive” is not a con!

Ken Lee says:

Ok i only guessed 7 correctly. Whose worse than me! LOL

Cody Robinson says:

I’ll pass. Why not just buy the Olympus 60mm and add Kenko extension tubes instead??
