Canon 100mm f/2.8 L Macro IS USM Lens Review: The Number One Macro Photography Lens

I give my hands on review of the Canon 100mm f/2.8 L Macro IS USM Lens. This lens is the number one macro photography lens on the market and it has been for years. This of course is my opinion but I’ve used a lot, this is great. It’s light weight, doesnt cost a lot and is super sharp stopped down to wide open. The Canon 100mm runs about $799 USD and is worth every penny.

dunnymonster says:

Everybody should own a good macro lens like this. Would make an outstanding portrait lens too, a great all rounder 😀

Cerberus studios says:

Love my Canon 100mm L macro, Great for the macro shots as well as head shots espically if you want to get up nice and close to your subject. Probably one of my most used lenses to date.

Randy Pollock says:

Love using it on my Canon Mark III or Fuji X-T2 – Interesting that today Fuji announced the 80mm macro – Like someone else in the comments said everyone should have at least one macro lens.

Survival Hunter says:

The 65mm macro the best canon

TheMrBshoff says:

It would interesting to see a comparison between the Canon 100 2.8L macro and the sigma 105 2.8 macro

MrCochise71 says:

Nice. Macro lenses are very underrated. They are fantastic for so many types of photography.

Jason Brown says:

Where on earth can you find that 100mm macro L series for $750? as far as i know the non L series version of that lens is around $750 and the L series is around $1100 or so. Either way it will be in my bag soon.

Hifibloke says:

Eric how would you compare this on crop body for portraiture to 85mm f1.8 ? which is not macro, has no IS, not L lens , but it is way cheper …

RJ Bradbury Photography says:

Recently added this to the bag, great lens. Picked a used copy up for £500 in the UK. Main reasons for purchase were to move back towards a prime only kit and also to have something longer than the 85 F1.8 for studio use when compression is needed. It also see use at weddings for details.
