Ive been thinking about getting this one, i use a lot of takumar lenses and ive never really been disappointed. However, you should watch out because im pretty sure that lens is radioactive. Be careful with dropping it or exposing yourself to radiation more than you need to.

Tomislav Miletić says:

Many macro lenses of that era (50’s, 60’s & 70’s) had a deep recessed front element, in order to be eable to extend inner barrel so far, thus to achieve a macro shot. Latter variants did that in another fashion. And since your lens is an older model, it had small front element, thus achieving only f/4. I guess since Nikkor 55mm f/2,8, all 50-something macro lenses started at f/2,8. And in the case you don’t know, usually once you pass a feet into close – up, you start to loose light rapidly, so your lens is not f/4 anymore, it will peak at f/5,6 or so the clocest macro setting, depending of the lens. That rule applies to ALL macro lenses.

Greg Derozier says:

God, you must be a wimp! Like almost all photographers of my generation, I spent a career carrying 4 Nikon F bodies & 6-8 lens’. Now all I hear is ‘it’s to heavy, so I had to switch….’. My god, man up!
