Here’s a brief and not terribly technical hands-on review of the VENUS V-DX 60mm f/2.8 2:1 Ultra-Macro Lens – the world’s first 2:1 macro lens that can infinity focus. Feel free to ask any questions you may have about the lens.
Special thanks to Kathleen Neeley of www.KinkPrints.com for helping film the field tests and modeling.

Hi Thomas… thanks for recommending this lens and just today I got mine from Hong Kong… I ordered it three weeks ago. I can’t wait to test it this week end.
I am curious about comparing this lens and Vivitar 55 2.8 with Micro Nikkor 55 2.8 AIS :). I think the nikkor is way sharper than the Vivitar. Maybe at closed apertures like F11 not but from 2.8 do 8.0 it is sharper.
hello,i you fans…one question for you,i don’t speak english but i one question….¿the fotos most best that lens invert (video methods in macro photography) or most best lens Venus V-DX Ultra-Macro???
Thumbs-up for giant mushrooms, ladybug hairs and spiders eyes! Yes, this is a good review. I’m taking a closer look at macro-video methods and equipment. Your videos are very helpful and the photos are spectacular. This lens is much too bulky for my little camcorder, but I like the information and just yesterday I filmed some tiny spider’s webs, on a Saguaro Cactus plant. Do you own a microscope or a telescope, because there are so many things that we still want to see, haha? Thanks
Hello. Sorry for my question… Can I use it for Sony a7 e-mount Full Frame camera ?
Thanks…
What is the label of watch he wears?
how close can you get to the subject without losing focus? how is this compare to other macro lens?
Hi Thomas, thanks for the review. Question: Is this lens the same as the Oshiro 60mm f/2.8 2:1 LD UNC Ultra-Macro Lens? They look very similar.
Thomas, oh man! Extension tubes again?! just get the MP-E 65mm, get some Canon body and never look back… honestly, it’s not a million dollars.
ET/REVERSING, man… you are degrading image quality by a lot!
Sounds so cool, and I also know the 15mm wide macro lens from your videos. Hope you share more interesting works with us.
How can i get VENUS V-DX 60mm f/2.8 2:1 ????
i have a nikon d3300 which is APS-C…. will this lense fit/ look good on that body? im also considering a Nikon 40mm f/2.8G AF-S DX Micro-Nikkor Lens. what do you think will be better?
Oviusly it will depends on what camera we would be using.
A shop has the Bresser Macrolens 60mm F/2.8 on sale. It has the exact same specs as the Venus Optics Laowa and looks the same as well, aside from the front (sun cap?). Is it the exact same lens but a rebrand, or a copy? Can’t find anything about it.
Excellent review. This lens is certainly new and exciting, but I worry about the manual aperture on a macro lens. I have no problem with a manual aperture ring on my landscape lens (rokinon 14 mm), but it will certainly present new difficulties for macro. I imagine that I’d need to use liveview mode most of the time.
Do you like this one over the Laowa 15mm macro?
Thomas, suas fotos são incríveis. Imagino a dificuldade para produzir. Muita paz! Gosto de filmar a fauna e flora brasileira.
Tenho alguns videos publicados.
Is there a difference between this lens and just using a i.g. 55 Micro Nikkor in reverse ?
I take it this would work fine on a crop sensor camera too ?
speaking of infinity… that logo lol
what a fantastic lens, I love your pics Thomas, thanks for sharing.
hi
Greetings from Colombia
I wonder if I can get this lens for full frame?
thank you
What was the guitar music’s name?
can this or something like this fit a canon rebel t5?
The spider shot at 3:51 is edited and is a result of focus stacking.
I’ve been using this lens for quite sometimes & it has a very good results.
How to buy this lense in india.venus 60mm f2.8 ultra-macro lense
Is this lense difficult to use. I am a beginner and I have a canon 60d. Also, how difficult is it to take macro photos with this lense by holding the camera, and not using the tripod ?
