Thank you for the information, and the sample files. Great work!
Thats it, I’m going for this one 🙂
Hi Mark – great review.
I currently have the Rokinon 14mm f/2.8 and I enjoy the field of view so I’m a little concerned about making the switch to the 18mm Batis (so the Voigtlander would be better for me esp given it’s awesome size and IQ).
Having said that, I also have a small baby daughter so I take plenty of portrait pics (and the autofocus of the Batis would be a blessing).
So two quick questions:
1) Is the Batis sharper than the Voigtlander?
2) Is the loss of the field of view (15mm to 18mm) worth getting the autofocus?
Thanks!
what a sweet guy.
Thanks for the review you are awesome
Guys, please help I can’t decide what take Zeiss Batis 18mm f/2.8 or Sony Vario-Tessar T* FE 16-35mm f/4 for SONY A7R. I do Video/Photo 60%/40%. The Main pros for 16-35, stabilization in the lens, as A7R doesn’t have it in the body and zoom, but I’m not sure about the image quality, especially after my Sony 55 F/1.8. Batis no stabilization and no zoom, but I’m sure about image quality and sharpness is exceptional. Please, any advice will be very appreciating. In future, of course, I gonna to change body on A7RII or SII.
Thanks.
How does it compare to the Loxia 21mm?
Thanks Mark for the short review of the Batis 18 /2,8. Wondering, if I have to chose between the Batis 18mm vs 25mm, which one should be a better option? Or, G-Master 24-70 is a better buy?
I know the differences between these lens but my photography budget can only buy one lens!
Much thanks. Greetings from Vancouver Island 🙂
Truly outstanding pictures. Gorgeous.
Thank you for the review, very nice and clear 😉
Why not 18mm for a-mount ? So are a-mount body through away ? SONY !?
Will the OKED last as long as the lens?
Nice review Mark. One thing that surprises a lot of people about the Batis lens series is their weight. I own the Batis 85 and everyone assumes it’s a beast of a lens. When they pick up my A7R2+85 they’re very surprised by the overall weight. I prefer the Batis 85mm over the Sony 85GM due to physical features. Also, from my experience, the Batis is more refined too. I can’t wait to get my Batis 18. It’s another winner from Zeiss.
Thanks for the review Mark! Q: After trying both the Batis 18 and Voigtlander 15, which one would you bring along if you could only take one on a long remote trip? Do you find the Batis sharper than the Voigtlander? Do you think 15 vs 18mm is that significant? I’m still debating on which one to get. Owning a A7s2, I’m not too concerned about F4.5 but sharpness would be a dealbreaker for me.
Sorry but aren’t you a sony rep. If so your never going to say anything bad about sony lenses or zeiss
2.8 v 1.8 is it a big difference
Just got the Zeiss 25m 2.0 and 18m and they are awesome lens on my A7II 🙂
Hi, Is there a filter compatible with this lens? I hope you tell me the type of filter
