What’s with This Lens?! – Sigma 50mm f1.4 Art for Sony E Review & Unboxing

The Sigma 50mm f1.4 Art Lens for Sony E-mount is the first of the new Sony lineup of Sigma lenses that I’ve been able to get my hands on due to supply issues. Thankfully Camera Canada had a model I could test drive for this review and unboxing.

Gerrit M says:

Hi Gerald. Which Sony camera did you use ?

Jay Koala says:

I wonder if sigma started doing mount conversions yet

David Anderson says:

A brilliant lens. MUCH better than the Canon/Nikon 50’s IMHO.

Lê Hồng Hải says:

Im curious how it performs compare to a Canon version with mc11 mount, can you please make a video to compare 2 versions? Thank you <3

Tony Emil says:

Any news about the 85 1.4 release ?

sleet visuals says:

Since when did you have a Sony?! Well, I upgraded from my Pany to the a7iii, so I can’t blame you 🙂

Peter Cerrato says:

How’s the video autofocus on this lens?

Felipe Olvera says:

I think overall value (at this focal length) the 55m zeiss is still a better value

NIQ says:

This video was a1. Non like it’s kind at this moment. I’ve been thinking about buying the 14mm f1.8. But no one has done a review on it yet.

Felipe Olvera says:

Wow look at that bad boy at 6:24, freaking huge! Even when comparing it to the 85mm fe it’s like two to three times as large. I can’t believe they didn’t do a redesign of the lenses rather integrated an adapter…

Move_I_Got_This says:

I got one for 500$ and I’m a big fan. Before I was like “native, native, native” and now I’m like “sigma art, sigma art….”
Put it to you this way…..it’s the 17th highest rated lens ever on the DXOMark! That includes most lenses ever made by every company for every camera, Nikon, Canon, etc.
The #1 lens is the Sigma Art 85 1.4.

Marco Emme says:

I am surprised that you don’t like the Distagon 35mm! I know there are some faulty copies out there, but the lens is absolutely amazing (when you find a good one). Maybe a tad softer than the Sigma, but the overall rendition is awesome!
Anyway, nice to have many options for Sony, now!

Julie Whelan Photography says:

I did find it to be heavy and big for a mirrorless camera system, but definitely a no-brainer in terms of quality compared to other lenses in that price point.

ivoproductions says:

Can you make video of autofocus performance in video mode ?

Al Green - Light Through Glass says:

i’m adapting small fast rangefinder lenses from the 50’s onto mirrorless – I think in future the tendency will be for tiny – this thing is just way too big for the form factor.

Cams Campbell says:

Nice review! The Sigma Art lenses look sweet. Are they bringing out a 35mm f/1.4? I just got a Loxia 35mm f/2 used, which is my first lens for my new A7 (I traded in the kit lens). I took it out today for the first time and enjoyed using it. Seems kinda strange to be buying a manual focus lens for what is arguably one of the best AF bodies on the market, but I watched a lot of reviews and figured I’d give it a go while I wait for my pre-ordered Tamron 28-75 f/2.8.

A 50mm f/1.4 would be a nice addition to my camera bag. Tamron and Sigma seem to be killing it with their e-mount lenses. I wonder if they’ll force Sony / Zeiss to reduce their prices? I’m actually after something wider before I go with a mid-range telephoto. I’ve been looking at the 18mm Batis, but boy are they expensive! I’d love to see a 16 or 18mm Sigma.

Benoit Levesque says:

Did you try the Rokinon 35mm f1.4 ? (the one with AF)

Omar Nour says:

great review man. i just wanna ask about the autofocus consistency in photo ? cause i had this lens before and was using it on my canon 6d, its my fav lens ever but had to sell it due to af inconsistency

BobZOMG1984 says:

so, what do you think? sigma or sony zeiss 50mm f1.4?

goddesseddog says:

a redesign could make this better & much smaller

How To And Reviews says:

Greetings, how was the continuous AF noise for video? With the MC-11 adaptor you can really hear the AF jittering with Art lenses. Thanks!
