Samyang 35mm f/1.4 AS UMC lens review, with samples (full-frame and APS-C)

Here’s one of the lenses that helped to put Samyang on the map. I love testing fast 35mm lenses, and it’s definitely a very fun piece of kit – is this lens as sharp as it is fun?

CHRISTOPHER FROST, are u a priest or vicar by trade ?, sure I seen u in a vicar suit on one of your vids ?, love your reviews, and love your honesty on lenses, keeping your reviews short is defiantly a thing I like, I hate 30min lens reviews lol

Joaquin Ceballos says:

Hello Cristohper!
do you think this Samyang 35mm is a good lens for product photography, having an APS-C sensor camera?

Unai Oroz Saavedra says:

Cuál es mejor, este Samyang o el Samyang AE?

Marizen says:

So what would be the APS-C equivalent or closes possible match of a full frame using 35mm?

Maulik Pandya says:

As per your point of view, which one is better? Sigma 35mm 1.4 art or Samyang 35mm 1.4 ?

Patrick Weygoldt says:

Hi Chris! Thanks for that perfect review, as always 🙂 How does this lens compare to the sigma 35mm art in terms of image quality? thank you!

Moritz Ritter says:

samyang 35mm 1.4 or Sigma 30mm 1.4 “non art”??

PhotographyByJakob says:

Just wondering, will this lens be good for landscape together with my canon70d? or will it be more like the 50mm? :/

TheFelipemahler says:

Best Samyang 35 mm review ever.

Photo Hobbyist says:

I have been eyeing between this and the 85 mm for my 700d. Which would you suggest personally?

kok wei says:

hi chris. would like to ask do every samyang lens come with manual focus ? 35mm f1.4, 50mm f1.4, and 85mm f1.4 does not have auto focus ?

Sam Ten Thije says:

I’m using an aps-c camera and I’d like to buy my first wide angle lens. I want a Samyang lens since they are fairly cheap. I don’t want to go extremely wide. I hope you have an advise for me for which lens I should use.
please keep up the good work 🙂 thanks!

Stephen Chung says:

is this lens good at f8 f11??

si2504 says:

hi chris, help me decide on a lens to choose please because im going out of my mind. purely based on performance, not taking into account the focal lengths, if you had to choose between two which would you pick.

the samyang 24mm f1.4 or
the samyang 35mm f1.4

which performed best in your eyes? thanks

Darren Ochoa says:

Hello.I can’t decide between the Samyang 35mm f1.4 or the Samyang 50mm f1.4. ? I will probably be doing more landscape photography. Any suggestions between the two.Thank you .

Great review! very informative. Still confused whether to go for the samyang or sigma version, auto focus matters when we are in a wedding taking shots!!! what would you all say and especially Christopher what ur call on this one. Am i going to miss shots with the manual focus one ; i do use a 135mm f2 from samyang and i miss focus once lights goes down.

Falling Poster says:

WHAT kind of lens mount is that at 0:30??

A mar says:

Got it. thx

Usually Late says:

Just got one for my A6000. Is now my favourite lens. Thanks for your review.

Jayjay says:

Quick question can you still use live view with this lense??

TheBobes says:

Wish I had the money for it. 🙁 I love fully manual lenses and 35mm would be great on my K-5. Oh well, maybe some day…

seb jansen-munday says:

Chris, you often use nice manual Samsung lenses which are only manual focus. I know you say they are easy to focus with live view, but how about directly through the view finder; I’m on an old 5D which lacks any live view function and I do not wish to change to a manual focus style focus screen..

Ali Imran says:

say christopher, if i use this lens in a 5dmk2, can the body make the autofocus possible? or still cant? still need manual focusing? appreciate the help. and merry xmas!

Birgitte says:

Does the lens have AF chip? And can it be used in Aperture mode? I am looking to buy this for my Canon m3, do you recommend it? Thanks!!
