For $160, it is hard to go wrong with this 50mm lens. Af F1.1 you’ll find yourself lost in shallow depth of field and those yummy blurry backgrounds! All that said, there are some downsides you should consider.
You can get the Kamlan 50mm F1.1 can be found below with the following mounts:
Sony E/NEX
Micro Four Thirds (MFT, M43)
Fuji X/FX
EOS-M Mount
Nikon N1
Kamlan 50mm F1.1 Lens

Build well
Solid mount
Smooth rings
Sharp in center past F2.0
CONS:
Always soft edges
Soft at F1.1
FINAL THOUGHTS
As an affordable budget lens, this isn’t a hard decision. Love this lens for getting shallow depth of field at almost any distance!

Question… i’m using GH4 for shooting in 4K. I have a very very small filming studio. I think it’s 10 x 11. Maybe even smaller. Would I get even blurrier background if I used a meta-bones speed booster and bought this lens for a full sensor camera?
Sony should make a 50mm f1.0 with Autofocus if China can make something like this and yet so small
How can I use this lens with Canon 700d
some digital zoom could be good to get rid of that corners
Will this work with the GH5? Do I need an adapter?
Bokeh is such a shit wanky word so butcher it’s pronunciation as much as you want.
I refuse to say the word, ever.
The day I do,well, somebody hit me with a big blunt object.
Hi There Caleb, I found your channel recently and I’ve been “binge-watching” your content… I was wondering if you could try to include a bit of Nikon on your channel, since it is all about DSLR Video, Lenses, Tips for Videos, etc… Your content is top notch!
It’s only for tiny sensors. Pointless …
You said Bokeh correctly! Nice review as usual…
Do they make this lens with a mft mount? I have a gh5 and I cannot find a mft mount anywhere?
It’s should be the cheapest F1.1 lens… but just don’t tell people about the brand name…
nice review thanks
I have a question. Would you be better off (optically and financially) by buying a manual focus 50mm and an adapter? I already have a Minolta MD 50mm F1.7 which I have de-clicked and the shallow depth of field is enough wide open. The simple adapters cost so little on eBay. There is obviously the option to buy a focal reducer as well so you get two fields of view from one lens. As it happens I also have a 21mm, 28mm and 135mm as I started with manual focus Minolta cameras so these were in the bottom of a cupboard.
Anyway, another great review. Thanks.
Hi Caleb, looking at this review it seems that the sharpness is something similar to the C-mount lenses (with blurring / de-focus at the edges). Would it be better to just go for a cheap C-mount for wide apertures, and maybe a cheap Minolta/Canon/Yashica full frame lens for anything above f2.8 as (when they are stopped down slighty) they can be really sharp edge-to-edge but still give a good “vintage” look on a budget.
I do say, the edge softness gives a dreamy look. I like the character it gives. I kinda want to get it now xD
Seems like a good deal. But can we use it for shooting the links in a tight room of 12 ft by twelve feet. I have a sony 6300 (which i am yet to explore). I make youtube videos and chose 6300 for its low light application. Will this lens be a good investment?
Why so orange skintone?
GOSH THIS MAN IS HOT!! no homo
Is this an apsc lens? Does not work with a full frame sensor?
Between Olympus 50mm F1.8 and Kamlan 50mm F1.1, Which one is better to buy?
Thanks!
I like your videos but you are nobody to say something looks stupid just because you couldn’t find a way to make close ups of the glass rim look good; Tarantino does it like 20 times in Pulp Fiction during the heroin scene.
3:27 surely you can geta landscape in focus?
Warning, could case you to get your creative on.
Is good for nikon ?
Hey everyone! Thought you guys may be interested in this short horror film we made for Halloween this year. We filmed on a Canon 5d and it was funded for under $100 at Home Depot. I would love to hear what you guys think.

Hey guys-it’s-Caleb-here WITH DSLRvideoshooter and TODAY…
It’s actually pronounced BoKahahahaaaaAAHHH.
if i buy the canon eos m mount version could i use the lens for my canon 7d or would i have to get an adapter?
@dslr video shooter
You are the best Vlogger in photography/videography field.
Right to the point.
it should have one more focal correction element to sort out the blur edges
How well would this work with a G85 and a Metabones Speedbooster?
Could you explain a bit the set up ( camera, lens, light) used to record the aperture blades while rotating ? would be much appreciated thanks !
I think soft edges is a cool effect
Hi, witch is the best filter for GH5 in day light shoot .now I am using 12-35-f2.8 lens.can u suggest.
Thank you..!
Technically, bokeh is a japanese word, pronounced “Boka”
Field curvarture is the Word you‘re looking for… :–}
Great review. Thank you!
Can I use this on a d3300?
Hi caleb. I really like look you have on those videos when showing lens capabilities. Do you shoot in log or with some in camera profile without grading after. Thank you.
It’s not boket is boket 😉
Any clue why the lense on an A7 has a vignette to it. How do I fix that
nice lens but on aps c i feel its too zoomed in for my taste
