Thanks for the review, Max, but if someone has $2,000 to spend on the EM1, they should have enough sense not to pair it with subpar glass. The Panasonic G X 12-35 isn’t even a fair comparison. A better comparison would be the dirt cheap Sigma 30mm f/1.4 DC DN, a similar focal length to your tested lens, and one of the sharpest lenses in either the m43 or APS-C systems, and which runs around $300.
I’m actually impressed at how good the EM1 footage looks with this lens. Did you shoot in a flat profile and grade it in post? Looks good!
Yes, it does…
I have a fujian 35mm cctv lens, should i buy this one or the photo quality is almost the same?
Hey Max. Can u indicate me some budget travel lens for canon ?! I would like a cheap one under 200$ that i can use both for zoom and portrait photos. Thank u for the awesome video!
I want this.
These Neewer/Meike lenses have been around for a few years being sold under the brand name Kaxinda. I bought and returned a Kaxinda 35mm F1.7 recently. It had really bad focus shift with stopping down, and the corners only got worse. The Neewer 50mm F2(sic 2.4) and 28mm F2.8 lenses I tried were ok–maybe they are better on 4/3rds.
I really like my Discover 25mm F1.8 lens–very recommended.
82$ for this shit??? Rather get 4 Japan vintage lens 🙂 Dont support chinese, they are lazy people.
This one can be found as MEIKE too :). It is more interesting on APS-C…
GA z170x, niceeee
Max, you have a very nice voice! I wondered if you want to do some voice over for ESL(English as Second Language) books for Koreans?
Max, can you compare this to the SLR Magic 35mm f/1.7? That would be fairer, both on focal lenght, aperture and price.
WOW, makes my $5 SMC Takumar 55/2,0 seem like a real gem 🙂 Nice video, but that lens looks really cheap. Not really liking the background blur, it’s very noticeable and kind of ruins it for me.
keeping the olympus? what camera are you mainly shooting with these days?
Nice review! Thanks for sharing this!
and i can use it on any camera ??
yer body itz too good…
can i use this for bmcc ef canon
Nice review, have been after a lens like this forever and just discovered them. I know that it won’t be state of the art, but you can’t complain at the price.
Is this lens good for B roll? I would like to do B roll in my videos on products That I am reviewing.
Damn it! You beat me to it! I’ve had this in my wishlist for a while to test.
Are there similar super cheap 28-50mm primes for SONY FE?
Interesting will be to compare this with some Rokkor or canon Fd….
How this compare Sigma 30mm f2.8 for Portrait photography
Just picked up the lens and I’m loving it so far! Especially since I’m using it just for YouTube and personal uses instead of professionally.
Hi Max! Nice lighting and framing this time! Thanks for the tipp!
how long is the focus throw?
It’s important to note that this was shot on Micro 4/3, so FOV will be wider for those of you using APSC.
I’m not sure this is really an effective test. There’s loads of light being bounced off all of that snow and there’s nothing in low light.
Would be great if you review the mitakon 35 0.95
I have an identical lens branded “Meike”. Very happy with it, especially when doing video footage of myself where I have often had bad luck with autofocus lenses which tend to shift focus point when I least want it. The lens has a fantastic “retro”-feeling when focusing and changing aperture, reminding me of the days when I used a 1971 Nikkormat.
looks promising
Hi Max! Thank you so mucho for the review and for all your work sharing information about equipment. What camera are you actually using for filming yourself. For example on this particular video? Cheers!
As always, Max… great job! Thanks for the info!
I thought sigma didn’t have native e mount lenses, am I wrong?
6 weeks to get it from Hong Kong for the EOS M.
Max I look into. I have a question. If I was looking for a speedbooster besides Metabone which should I choose
Wait, where did all these outdoor shots happen? I know it isn’t my city, but it sure reminds me a lot of it.
A fully manual lens. What’s that?
nice, thank you
I know it’s not exactly the same focal length, but the Sigma 30mm f1.4 would probably make for a decent comparison given that it’s so similar in field of view but offers autofocus, better coatings, slightly faster aperture, and comes in the same mounts (except Fuji). Could be a good example of what an extra $250 gets (or doesn’t get) you.
love different taxes in other countries.. in fucking czech.. it costs more than 100….
can I yous it for sony a7rii??
